Molly’s Happy Tail

Did you know that the shelter gets small dogs from time to time like Molly here.  Her adopter Cyndi says, “Thank you for the beautiful Jack Russell/Chihuahua Mix I recieved in May 2011. Molly has fit in well in our family and doing well.  She loves to take walks and is a great traveller. Thank You !!!” What’s your Happy Tail? Share it on this website!

Cool Hand Luke

I met Luke at the shelter while I was there volunteering to walk dogs. The staff asked me to take out a particular dog and Luke was in the adjoining kennel. All the dogs were excited and barking, but Luke was sitting there, tail wagging, just looking at me. I told him as soon as I finished walking the other dog, I would take him out next. We had a nice walk and afterward sat on a loading dock so we could get to know each other better. Luke was so mellow and enjoyed all the petting I could give him. I knew when I returned him to the shelter that I would be coming back for him! The next day, my family went to meet him and we all agreed that he would be a good fit for us. A few months before we adopted Luke, we lost our very special dog, Deuce. We were all still heartbroken, but thought another dog would help us heal. We found out from the shelter staff that this was Luke’s second time up for adoption. I am happy to say that Luke has helped us through the loss of our other dog and am happier to say that Luke will NEVER be up for adoption again! He is a treasure and we love him so much. Thanks to the shelter for taking such good care of him until he could come home with us. The Ellingson Family

Young Ambassadors Raise Funds for Shelter

Sam and Larissa Saarel present the money they raised to Executive Director Vicki Blakeman

Sam and Larissa Saarel chose Stafford Animal Shelter for their People to People Ambassador Program Community Service project, handcrafted a range of great items, and sold them at local businesses over three days raising nearly $200 for our animals! The twins will surely be excellent Student Ambassadors. View the Sam and Larissa Saarel Project Video to learn more. Thanks to the Saarels and everyone who supported them. Every penny they raised will go directly to feeding hungry animals waiting for homes!

My first experience with a kitten!

I have always been a dog owner, but due to my circumstances, that was not an option. I love animals, so I decided to adopt a kitten! I met, and adopted Willie in January of 2011 when she was about 4-1/2 months old! I cannot believe what she has done for me in my life. She has been a true blessing!! She snuggles with me at night, loves a lot of love and affection, and has a playful personality. She actually fetches! Willie has been so easy…Not one problem to speak of. I sometimes wonder why I waited so long to adopt a kitten…We, I believe, were meant to be together!
Thank you Stafford Animal Shelter, you have changed my life!:)

My lil’ boy Peppurr

When I first brought Peppurr home, he was only 8 weeks old and tiny. I was really nervous and sad because, although I was doing everything a person is told to do when introducing a new pet into the home, my older cat (JessieBelle) was not accepting of the new kitten. Peppurr had to stay in my guest bedroom for quite awhile until JessieBelle got to the point that she wouldn’t HISS at him and try to swipe at him with her claws. I felt so bad because she wanted nothing to do with him. I would spend hours in the bedroom with Peppurr, playing and napping with him to keep him company. It developed a strong bond between us. It took a long time, but eventually JessieBelle got the point of tolerating the new kitten, and now… they get along great and even groom each other! I never would have believed it, but it was worth the time and effort. Peppurr follows me everywhere in the house, like a little boy. He watches me shave and plays in the water in the sink next to mine. He even lays next to the shower and tries to hop in while I’m in there. For a cat, he really likes water! Cats are awesome… if you get more than one, give them time to develop relationships with each other before you give up if things start to look bad. I’m very thankful that we kept working at it.
