All Are Invited to 9/6 Open House
September 6 Open House – Fill Your Belly, Heart or Home!
All are invited to Stafford Animal Shelter’s September 6 Open House in conjunction with Livingston’s Chamber of Commerce Network Live! to celebrate the final phase of our grant-funded building expansion and improvement project. The Shelter is located a mile east of Livingston off Park Street at 3 Business Park Road and the event is from 5:30 to 7 pm with tasty food, beverages and a drawing for great free prizes! If interested, you may meet adoptable pets but don’t have to if you don’t want to be tempted.
Come see the dog wing improvements, new small and exotic animal “Zoo” room and isolation building to house infectious disease, evacuation, emergencies, and possible hoarding cases. The building has a storage loft to house seasonal, special project and overflow items and expands the Shelter’s flexibility to respond to any number of crises in the community for decades to come.
Having this new storage also allows the Shelter to use two other storage outbuildings to expand their community support services. One will function as a free pet supply exchange for donated kennels, carriers, small animal housing, accessories, etc. to be given to those in need. The other will house supplies for the Spay Neuter Project; an independent organization that coordinates low income spay/neuter vouchers, clinics and addresses feral and stray cat colonies. The latter group is shifting focus from regular Spay Neuter clinics to vouchers and trap/neuter/release programs for feral cat populations.
This is the third and final phase of a project made possible by an anonymous local foundation; with these funds earmarked for building improvements and expansions to increase the Shelter’s efficiency and capacity to serve our growing and changing community.
Funds are still needed to cover the Shelter’s everyday operation costs. Did you know they spend an average of $500 on each animal during its Shelter stay? Clearly, the adoption and reclamation fees cover a very small portion of those crucial medical, food, and housing costs. The Shelter receives no national organization, federal or state funding so relies on contributions from generous individuals and local businesses who care about pets. I got Julie a year and half a ago she is doing quite well. We are about to move in to our own house in a couple weeks so she will be even happier. She has been through a lot in the past month because I brought home a hamster – but she loves him like a brother and will even give him kisses! She has me trained because when I get home, I always give her treats. Her bowls say ‘Princess’ on them.
