Adoptions fees do not cover the cost of care for each pet as we spend $450 on average to prepare them for adoption. All adoptable dogs and cats receive spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, medical exams & treatment, core immunizations including Rabies and anti-parasitic medication. The adoption fee is a nominal charge to help offset the overall costs. Any additional donation is much appreciated as we are a 501©3 non-profit organization that needs to fundraise operating & veterinary costs annually.
All adoptions are subject to adoption counseling and administrative approval. We reserve the right to require landlord approval, veterinary check and dog introductions (if you already have a dog in your home) in special circumstances.
Your adoption packet includes your new pet’s medical history, free introductory month of pet insurance (for cats and dogs only), dog or cat food from Science Diet, coupon for Science Diet Pet Food, informational handouts tailored to your needs and a list of local Veterinarians who will offer you a complimentary first visit for your new family member. We are grateful to these businesses who make it possible to offer so many free or discounted services to adopters.
We seek to make ideal, life-long matches, and work diligently to match the perfect pet for your family and lifestyle. If it is necessary for you to return a pet, we do not refund the adoption fee and we consider it a donation to Stafford Animal Shelter.
To save time, you may print & complete your application before visiting the shelter. We do not put animals on hold, so if you are interested in adopting a specific animal we ask that you come visit in person at your earliest opportunity. We will not adopt out animals to anyone who has not come to the shelter to meet them in person. Be prepared to take your new best friend home the day you adopt. We have a small retail store and local business partners where you can buy essentials. Visit us Wednesday – Sunday, 12 Noon to 5 PM. We’re looking forward to helping you “Adopt a Friend for Life”!
