Bark in the Park kicked off with Saturday (instead of Sunday this year), August 16th’s Dog Days of Summer 5 k fun run/walk at 9 a.m. It’s the first year of Business Buddies Benefit in conjunction with the race: business teams will compete against each other in two categories – team’s race time average and team with the most participants – for bragging rights and great prizes. This is a great opportunity to boost workplace morale, team building, give back to the community, and celebrate physical health and canines! Individual participants are encouraged to take advantage of employers’ matching donation programs with your race registration. Check in is at the Miles Bandshell Park near the Convention Center Parking lot at 225 East River Drive at 8 am for unregistered participants and 8:30 for pre-registered participants. Please no strollers and one dog (up-to-date on their vaccinations) per person on a short, non-retractable leash please to prevent leash tangles and injury. The course is near Yellowstone River along dirt roads and quiet city streets with water stops for people and dogs. ONLINE PREREGISTRATION CLOSED , download 2014 Race Registration Form and bring to race or get one at checkin at 8 am. Dogs and kids under 13 join the race for free and $30 for adults. There will be ribbons and prizes for top placers in men’s, women’s, youth, and canine categories in addition to prizes for Business Buddy Benefit winning teams.
The fun on Sunday at the Sacajawea Bandshell Park and City Pool began with the ‘Pup’ularity Pledge Contest registration at 10:30 a.m. where pet owners raise pledges to determine whose pup is the most popular. The Pledge Contest is the most important part of Bark in the Park’s income since event attendance is free and dog contests are only $5 each. Download and print out a form here or raise funds online with a fundraiser page for your popular pup at http://www.firstgiving.com/25847 Great prizes for top fundraisers in youth and adult category followed by a parade of all pledge participants.
Dog contest registration is day of the event and $5 per contest with ribbons for top three places. The first contest at 11:30 a.m. is Best Swimsuit in the City Pool followed by longest jump and fastest swimmer. At 1 p.m. the fun moves to the Park for ‘Coolest Cat’ Photo contest, and the day culminates with dog contests in the Park including: Best Dressed, Fastest Mutt, Best Look-a-like, Smallest and Biggest Dog, Best Canine Singer, and Best Trick.
