Rosie, the fund's namesake

ROSIE MEDICAL FUND

Donate to this special medical fund exclusively used to heal pets in pain who have severe medical conditions. Just write “Rosie Fund” in the MESSAGE box to the right or in your note when you mail your donation. The fund is currently depleted and animals must wait until there are funds to cover their treatment. Recently, the Rosie Fund helped a dog who broke his leg twice in a row, a cat with a painful eye disease, a dog who needed a leg amputation, chronic ear infection medication, and both eyes removed. Thanks for helping the next suffering animal through our doors heal.

WHILE YOU SHOP

WISH LIST

Having needed items donated makes it possible for our limited funds to go directly to the feeding and care of our animals. Please drop items off during our business hours: Tuesday – Sat 12 noon to 6 p.m. and ask for your tax deduction receipt! See our Wish List for current needs.

Donating your time: VOLUNTEER

Our volunteers average over 100 hours each month walking dogs, brushing and playing with cats, doing laundry, taking pet photos, helping at fundraisers, and fostering orphan kitten or puppies. We are always looking for volunteers and, once trained, you may volunteer as frequently or infrequently as your schedule allows during our business hours Tuesday through Saturday between 12 noon and 6 pm. Here are some of our needs:

Dog Do-er: improve dogs’ physical, mental and emotional well-being by playing catch, leash walks, treadmill exercise, brushing and teaching them to sit for treats. Puppies need help learning to chew on toys and play gently.

Cat Cuddler: help abandoned and abused cats learn to trust and love again with calming touch, grooming and cuddling. Kittens need plenty of active play to develop agile muscles and minds.

Foster Care: extraordinary homes needed where nursing or orphan litters can be quarantined from other household pets until their immune systems are fully developed. This requires dedicated medical-grade hygiene and often multiple bottle feedings throughout the day and night. Special homes are also needed for dogs going “Kennel Crazy” from being confined and surrounded by other dogs until their stress levels improve.

Outdoor Maintenance: help create positive exercise and interactive outdoor environments for Shelter pets by weeding, working in the gardens, shoveling snow, installing and filling bird feeders outside of Cat Wing windows, or any other maintenance special skills you may have.

Special Events: Fur Ball every May and Bark in the Park every August require hundreds of volunteer hours; sit on an advisory committee, help gather donations, set up, work at the event, or clean up. We can match your skills to our needs. We also need newsletter and mailing volunteers to address and prepare bulk mailings quarterly (we provide the coffee, donuts, juice and plenty of socializing for these fun work days.)

Homeward Bound:volunteers learn basic dog training methods and work with untrained or high energy dogs to help make them more adoptable. Volunteers attend several classes to learn our methods, and then practice what they’ve learned with the shelter residents weekly for a six-month period. Homeward Bound trainings are scheduled twice a year.

Contact Volunteer Coordinator Kris King to schedule your one-hour training to work with animals or for information on other volunteer opportunities. Youth, families, and seniors welcome. Youth 12 and under need to be accompanied at all times by an adult. Contact 406-222-1313 or email shelterbark@imt.net - one hour trainings are scheduled weekly at your convenience Tues – Fri noon to 6 pm.
