Boo Boo found a home!

Boo Boo found a home on October 9th! She is the companion to another small dog with a family who is often home to keep her company. So far she “fits right in.” Kudos to Executive Director Vicki Blakeman who took her home and socialized her daily for more than a month until a home could be found!
Boo Boo’s ad read: “Hello out there. Does your dog need a buddy? Do you? I’m a short, dark and darling middle-aged woman (with the middle-aged wide girth to prove it) looking for lasting love. I’m fine left alone with other dogs in the house or yard but HATE to be left confined in a kennel at the Shelter. I totally tore my nail out trying to get out of confinement to be with folks (my pedicure was ruined).  I am low-key when by your side and spend hours just snoozing here in the office, waking occassionaly to help the staff when they need canine advice. I always let you know when I have to go out,  I enjoy walks, and also get along with everyone – I haven’t met a dog, cat, Guinea pig, or bird I don’t like. I can be your low maintenance, green energy door bell and alarm system, canine entertainer and  personal exercise machine. What’s not to love? My name is Boo Boo and I want to meet you. Hope to see you soon!”

Fire Safety and Your Pet

Fall is often fire season – inside and out. We should all have an evacuation plan that includes our pets in case of nearby fires as well as preventing fires indoors as we begin to heat our homes for the first time in the season.

Tonka’s (aka Star’s) adoption story

Tonka! Our story began in May of ’10 when we had to put down Dexy our German Shepherd of 14 1/2 yrs. She was an amazing dog and was adopted back in 1996. She was a huge part of our family and while she will always remain in our hearts, in October ’10 we started looking for another dog to rescue and welcome into our home.

Rattlesnakes + Dogs = Trouble

Holy Swollen Face Batman!

There seem to be more rattlesnakes out this year which means your dog will be greater at risk for being bitten on those warm Indian Summer hikes and outings.

As with so many things, when it comes to rattlesnake encounters, prevention is the best approach. Avoid areas known to be favorite rattlesnake haunts such as hot, sunny areas, and if you can’t avoid them, do leash your dog while in these areas. If you are unfamiliar with an area; it’s best to ask around.

Friends of Chester Marion Animal Fund

Jodi was adopted August 28th!

Stafford Animal Shelter is grateful to Kim Goodwine and the many friends of Chester Marion and Tena Versland and Chester’s family for their generous donations to sponsor his dogs and cats we took in after his untimely passing. All the dogs have been adopted, but several of his cats are STILL waiting for homes. Jodi was the last of his dogs at the Shelter and her new owner Ross said of her first day in his home, “She is doing awesome! Already playing fetch and rolling over for tummy scratches! Best dog ever!” Stafford is so appreciative of adopters as well as donors. Memorials may also be made in Chester Marion’s name. Thank you for caring.
