We understand that sometimes there are circumstances that may prevent you from being able to keep your animal and we are here to help. Stafford Animal Shelter is honored you would entrust us to take care of your pet.
To minimize the emotional distress caused by surrendering a pet,  we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions,  suggestions and alternatives that may support you and your pet during this difficult time.

Before You Bring a Pet In

  • Please call ahead so we can guide you and plan appropriately.
  • Bring any vet records, medications, and details about behavior and routines.
  • If the pet has bitten someone recently or has medical concerns, tell us up front—no judgment, just safety planning.

What to Expect

  • We’ll ask questions to understand the best placement options.
  • Some surrenders may require an appointment depending on capacity and staffing.
  • Our goal is always the safest, most humane outcome possible.
